RED BULL – FREE RUN KAMAZ
Filming
In 2021 Red Bull approached us with an unusual request: to feature freerunning parkour combined with the KAMAZ-Master assembly factory in one single video. We didn’t hesitate to accept.

We had to come up with an ideal formula to integrate Archie Aroyan, a Red Bull freerunning athlete, into the environment of the KAMAZ-Master teams home base. We had to make it mean more than an obstacle course, the action had to tell a story.

We centered the plot around a KAMAZ assembly worker who is running late for work. He is doing is best to get to his work station without being noticed by his boss.

Archie Aroyan liked our offer and he begun to immerse us into the world of freerunning. He was showing us acrobatic elements explaining their difficulty and how they are rated throughout the professional parkour community. During our discussions an idea was born: to have Archie jump off a bridge onto the roof of a KAMAZ truck driving under it. Archie was immediately sold on the concept and went straight off to execute this stunt. It was indeed a thrilling sight to see Archie blindly jumping off a bridge onto a moving truck!

To help us stage complicated stunts like these, we sought the help of Sasha Shevchenko, an award-winning parkour specialist, who also turned out to be Archie’s girlfriend. An interesting move was to feature members of the KAMAZ-Master team in the roles of factory workers with the Team Leader Vladimir Chagin playing the role of Factory Boss to perfection.

For filming purposes, it was decided to use a combination of action cameras, camera rigs and drones, with the Director of Photography also volunteering his abilities of a Segway rider. In total, we had a Segway, 2 RED cameras, an FPV drone, a 360 drone, and a few action cameras. We incorporated the entirety of the KAMAZ-Master team including maintenance, 4 racing KAMAZ trucks, 8 technical KAMAZ vehicles of various dimensions.

The project took us 3 months to complete: 2 months to prepare, 1 month for post-production. No human limb was hurt and not a single occupational safety regulation was violated in the process of filming. A 360 drone was destroyed. And lots of snacks.
