VIASAT – LIVES POSTERS
Filming
In July 2021 we were approached by our well-known and trusted customer VIASAT with the request to develop a way to modernize one of its’ channels – TV1000 Russian Кino. They wanted to reinvigorate the brand to attract the 25+ demographic, not only by way of new content, but also by renovating the channel’s image. Their big idea was to use this new image to attract attention not so much towards the channel, but rather towards the whole of Russian cinema, most of which is being broadcast on the channel. That would result in a gradual increase in the channel’s popularity as well. Quite the idea!

For the promo campaign’s main tagline, we came up with a “weird” word INCINEOUS (KINEALNO) composed from the combination of “ingenious” and “cinema”. We were partly inspired by 20th century Russian literature, namely, such authors as Mayakovskiy and Khlebnikov, and also, the growing trend of using made-up words in Russian media vividly illustrated their ability to get firmly stuck in the audience’s memory. ;)
To “beef up” the image we decided to go for some familiar and well-known faces for our cast. VIASAT ran a number of studies, as well as an online poll, resulting in Katerina Shpitsa and Roman Kurtsyn becoming our TV1000 Russian Kino Superheroes.

Concepts
The idea to film “live posters” with our heroes in the most popular modern Russian film genres came about almost instantly. In order to understand how such an idea might work, we drew up some concept art.
Video
When it became clear that the concept works, we moved on to plot development and further overall production. We wanted to depict the whole wide spectrum of movie genres: from comedies, set in the rural countryside, to space odysseys. Each clip turned out to be a challenge, with our team passionately rising to it.

We were experimenting with particles, reflections, color and composition, sometimes to surprising results.
